What Céline is known for

Paris ready-to-wear and leather-goods house founded 1945 by Celine and Richard Vipiana, known for the Triomphe emblem drawn from the Arc de Triomphe's chain motif; this listing is the Florence boutique on Via de' Tornabuoni.

Celine was founded in 1945 by Celine and Richard Vipiana as a made-to-measure children's shoe business in Paris, using a red elephant by cartoonist Raymond Peynet as its first emblem. The house expanded into women's shoes and leather goods, then in 1967 into ready-to-wear sportswear, where its trench coat became a signature piece. In 1971, Celine Vipiana noticed her split initial in the chain motif ringing the Arc de Triomphe and chose it for the house; the double-C emblem appeared in 1973, was later renamed Triomphe, and was revived under creative director Hedi Slimane from 2018. This listing corresponds to Celine's Florence boutique at Via dei Tornabuoni 24/26/28 R, a roughly 200-square-metre store inside a restored 19th-century palazzo, with interiors credited to Hedi Slimane.
