What Cimalp is known for

French outdoor brand founded 1964 by mountaineer Paul Sailler; now based in Saint-Marcel-les-Valence, Drome, selling hiking and mountaineering gear direct-to-consumer; official supplier to the French mountaineering federation since 2025.

CimAlp was founded in 1964 by Paul Sailler, a mountaineer from the Isere region, as a small manufacturer of mountain clothing in France's Drome department. The name is a contraction of 'cime' (peak) and 'Alpes,' reflecting its roots in Alpine terrain around Mont Blanc. The company built its identity around a direct-to-consumer model, selling technical hiking, trail-running and mountaineering apparel without the markup of third-party retail. It is based today in Saint-Marcel-les-Valence, in the Drome, rather than in Romans-sur-Isere as sometimes assumed. In 2025 CimAlp became the official clothing supplier to the French Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing (FFCAM), a formal endorsement from the sport's national governing body.

Best for — Hiking pants, softshells, and trail gear.
