What Claudie Pierlot is known for
Parisian ready-to-wear house founded 1984 by designer Claudie Pierlot, known for precise, tailored 'Parisienne' silhouettes. Now owned by SMCP (also home to Sandro and Maje) after a 2009 acquisition, with about 250 points of sale worldwide.
Claudie Pierlot was born in 1947 in Troyes, a town long tied to French textile manufacturing, and founded her eponymous womenswear label in Paris in 1984. Her design signature was precise, tailored clothing - structured jackets, cropped trousers, fitted dresses - built around an idea of understated Parisian style rather than directional fashion-week statements, aimed at a customer who wanted consistency season to season. The house built a loyal, largely French following through the late 1980s, 1990s and 2000s on that basis. Pierlot died at the age of 61, having already sold her company to the French group SMCP in 2009; creative direction afterward passed to Evelyne Chetrite and Judith Milgrom, the sisters who also run the Sandro label within the same group. SMCP formally united Sandro, Maje and Claudie Pierlot as a single fashion group in 2010, later added the menswear house Fursac, and listed the combined group on the Paris stock exchange in 2017. Today Claudie Pierlot operates through roughly 250 points of sale and employs close to 700 people across its stores and wholesale accounts in Europe, while its design studio and collections remain kept distinct from its SMCP sister brands.
