De Pindakaaswinkel

De Pijp

What De Pindakaaswinkel is known for

Opened in 2016 by farmer's son Michiel Vos on Czaar Peterstraat, this was the Netherlands' first dedicated peanut butter shop. Each batch is small-batch ground from peanuts, coconut oil and sea salt only — no palm oil, no added sugar.

De Pindakaaswinkel was founded by Michiel Vos, who grew up on a farm where bread with peanut butter was a daily staple, and carried that early attachment into adulthood as frustration with the limited, mass-market peanut butter available in Dutch supermarkets. Working from his own kitchen, he began testing flavor combinations himself before turning the idea into a shop. It opened in 2016 in a building on Czaar Peterstraat, and was described at the time as the first dedicated peanut butter shop in the Netherlands — and one of very few anywhere in the world built solely around the product. The recipe philosophy is deliberately restrained: peanuts, a small amount of coconut oil, and sea salt, with no palm oil and no added sugar, in contrast to many commercial spreads. Batches are ground and blended on site rather than shipped in from a separate producer, and the shop has since developed a range of flavored variations built on the same base recipe. The opening drew heavy local attention as a novelty format — a single-product specialty shop built entirely around a pantry staple — and it has continued operating as a standalone, product-focused store rather than expanding into a wider grocery format.

Best for — Artisan fresh-ground peanut butter.
