What Devoa is known for
Tokyo menswear label DEVOA, founded in 2006 by designer and former athlete Daisuke Nishida, builds three-dimensional 'anatomical' patterns modeled on muscle, skin and vein movement; garments are made in Japan in limited runs.
DEVOA is a Tokyo-based menswear label founded in 2006 by designer Daisuke Nishida, a former athlete and medical/anatomy instructor whose training informs the brand's central design method. Rather than conventional flat pattern-cutting, Nishida builds three-dimensional patterns informed by the movement of skin, muscle, nerves and veins - an approach the brand frames under the concept 'Destruction and Construction.' The 16th-century anatomist Andreas Vesalius is cited as a significant influence. Collections include jackets, knitwear and other ready-to-wear pieces, produced in Japan using fabrics developed with Japanese and Italian textile manufacturers, made in intentionally limited quantities.
