East End Press was founded in 2015 by Ellie Hodesdon as a print and design studio in Glasgow's west end, built around hand silk-screen printing on recycled cotton pulp paper. The studio's signature look comes directly from that process — the brightness of the ink and the slight misregistration inherent to hand-printing are treated as a feature of the aesthetic rather than a flaw to eliminate. Early on, Hodesdon handled every stage herself, from printing through production and packing, drawing visual inspiration from children's book illustration, folk art, anatomical drawings, and food packaging. As demand grew, particularly for the studio's garlands, production outgrew a one-person Glasgow operation; in 2018 manufacturing moved to a family-run printmaking business in Jaipur, India, a partnership that continues today and operates under fair-trade certification with independent auditing through SEDEX. The result is a studio that positions handmade, recycled-material design and transparently audited labor practices as inseparable from its visual identity, producing garlands, decorations, stationery, and homewares that read as bright, print-driven, and unmistakably hand-made rather than mass-manufactured.
