Eberts Genusshandlung & Kaffeerösterei

Eberts opened its Genusshandlung in Erfurt's old town in 2010, adding a dedicated Kaffeeroesterei in Gotha in 2017. The roastery uses a gentle drum-roasting method, running beans for up to twenty minutes at lower temperatures - a slower process the company says draws out fuller aroma while avoiding the harsher compounds that faster, industrial roasting can leave behind. Green coffee comes from Colombia, Ethiopia, Brazil, Uganda, Kenya, El Salvador, Guatemala and Bolivia, with the roastery highlighting a berry-toned Ethiopian Arabica, a chocolate-leaning Kenyan highland lot, and a Ugandan espresso blend as its standing single origins. Some of the range carries organic (BIO) certification. In 2025, the food magazine Der Feinschmecker included Eberts among Germany's 500 best cafes and roasteries, a national ranking that put the small two-town operation alongside far larger city roasters. Beyond the roasted coffee, the Erfurt shop's shelves carry regional Thuringian delicacies - oils, preserves, and spirits chosen from small producers - pairing the roastery's own beans with a wider selection of local specialty goods.
