Escaramuza runs as a hybrid bookstore and café at the corner of Pablo de María and Charrúa in Montevideo's Cordón neighborhood, open Monday through Saturday from 9am to 9pm. Its catalog splits across categories that go beyond a typical general bookshop: literary fiction, social science, gastronomy, gender studies, children's and young-adult titles, poetry, comics and manga, and a curated vinyl record section under 'Discos y vinilos.' A pantry line, Alacena, sells specialty coffee, oils and honeys, teas, and juices alongside the books, positioning the shop as a place to browse and eat rather than pass through quickly. Beyond retail, Escaramuza runs a full program of Talleres, workshops spanning children's and teen writing, illustration, literary analysis, languages, and ongoing reading clubs, plus an events calendar covering author talks and cultural programming around Montevideo. The shop also publishes Revista Intervalo, an in-house culture magazine covering book reviews, translation, columns, a podcast, and video content, extending its identity from retailer to independent publisher. A forthcoming 'Escuela de Formación Librera,' a bookseller training school, is set to begin its first modules later this year, another sign the shop positions itself as an institution for the local book trade rather than a single storefront.
