Finn Comfort

Finn Comfort traces its origins to Waldi Schuhfabrik GmbH, a shoemaker founded in 1945 in Haßfurt, a town in Lower Franconia, Bavaria, near Bamberg. The company began by making children's shoes, then broadened its range over subsequent decades — adding ski boots in 1965, women's shoes in 1974, and men's shoes in 1978. In 1986 it formally launched the FinnComfort brand, built around orthopedic and anatomically engineered footwear rather than general fashion footwear. Its footbeds — molded to reflect the natural contours of a healthy foot — combine cork harvested from Mediterranean oak trees, natural latex, woven jute, and suede lining, materials chosen for breathability and shape retention rather than mass-production speed. The brand earned the 1995 Fit Award from the Faculty of Biomechanics at Cologne's ITHP institute, and expanded its Haßfurt production facilities in 2001 and again in 2013 to meet growing international demand, at a time when much competing footwear manufacturing had moved overseas. The company has maintained handcrafted production at its original Bavarian factory site for more than 75 years, with individual pairs reportedly passing through more than 100 separate production steps.
