Folklore Coffee

Folklore Coffee opened in Conrad, Montana in July 2014, on the state's Rocky Mountain front, founded by Andy and Anna — he the roaster, trained at the American Barista & Coffee School in Portland; she the baker, turning out both the healthy and deliberately unhealthy end of the pastry case. Roasting became, in Andy's own account, the part of the business he came to love most: a self-described coffee obsessive who has since competed at the Goldenbean, the largest roasting competition in North America, taking home a gold along with silvers and bronzes. That competitive streak shows in how the shop talks about its coffee — batch by batch, with attention to the individual farmers and crops behind each lot rather than a single house style. From its Main Street micro-roastery, Folklore now supplies wholesale accounts in Missoula, Billings, and the Washington tri-cities, alongside a mail-order coffee club that ships bags direct. It remains, at its core, a one-roof operation — green coffee roasted, pastries baked, and espresso pulled in the same small-town space on Montana's Hi-Line.
