Hiram Green

Hiram Green is a Canadian-born, self-taught perfumer who began his career in 2003 at a London perfume shop before turning to formulation himself. Frustrated with the synthetic materials common to most commercial perfume, he relocated to the Netherlands to work exclusively in natural perfumery, launching his own line in 2013 with the fragrance Moon Bloom. Every scent since has been built from essential oils, absolutes and resins, blended around individual raw materials rather than a market brief, with organic grain alcohol as the sole base and no added synthetic dye — the color in the finished perfume comes only from its ingredients. Batches are small, hand-produced in his own studio, and rested for at least three months before bottling. In 2019 his fragrance Hyde won the Artisan award from the Art and Olfaction Foundation, a prize recognizing independent and experimental perfumery outside the mainstream fine-fragrance industry. Green's own site and the craft platform Homo Faber describe his studio as based in the countryside outside Amsterdam rather than in a shopfront, consistent with a made-to-order, direct-from-perfumer retail model rather than a walk-in boutique.
