What Huize van Wely is known for
Steven Pieter Cornelis van Wely opened Huize van Wely in Noordwijk aan Zee in January 1922; the family patisserie-chocolatier-glacier now has shops across Noordwijk, Heemstede, Haarlem and Amsterdam, and was named Royal Purveyor in 2023.
Huize van Wely traces to November 1921, when Steven Pieter Cornelis van Wely, then 26, founded the business, opening its doors as a chocolate and pastry shop in Noordwijk aan Zee in January 1922. The house grew from that single coastal shop into a small regional group: it opened an Amsterdam location on Beethovenstraat in April 1992, and by the present day operates shops across Noordwijk, Heemstede, Haarlem and Amsterdam. In October 2023, the patisserie received the Dutch royal distinction 'Hofleverancier' (Royal Purveyor), an honor granted by the King's Commissioner and reserved for businesses judged to have an impeccable reputation and a prominent regional standing.
