Jallan Golaghat Tea Co. traces to 1946, when Gajanand Jallan acquired a tea estate in what was then still pre-independence India from the Kingsley Assam Tea Company. Four generations later, the Jallan family still runs it as an independent estate rather than a plantation folded into a larger conglomerate, sitting in Golaghat district's tea belt in Assam's Brahmaputra valley. The estate now employs more than 300 workers, 70% of them women, and produces Assam CTC (crush-tear-curl) tea, the processing method responsible for the strong, malty, quick-brewing character most associated with everyday Assam tea rather than the more delicate orthodox leaf styles. Golaghat Supreme Tea is the company's flagship blend, described on its own site as refined over the years by family members rather than outsourced to a contract processor. Selling directly rather than exclusively through wholesalers or a national distributor lets the estate put its own name, rather than a generic tea-company label, on what reaches the cup - a structure that has held for close to eighty years across four generations of the same family, from Gajanand Jallan's original 1946 acquisition to the estate as it operates today.
