Founded as a cotton mill in 1784 by John Smedley and Peter Nightingale, Lea Mills in Derbyshire still spins, knits, and finishes John Smedley garments on its original site. Fine-gauge Sea Island cotton and merino wool polos and pullovers are the house signatures, from a firm the family says is now run by its eighth generation.
