Kitte

KITTE occupies the lower floors of JP Tower in Marunouchi, directly beside Tokyo Station, on a site that once held the Tokyo Central Post Office. Rather than demolish the historic post-office building outright, the redevelopment preserved and incorporated sections of the original structure into the new complex, including the fourth-floor former postmaster's office, kept on public display. The retail complex opened in March 2013 and spans seven levels -- six above ground and one below -- organized around roughly 100 shops and restaurants, many specializing in regional Japanese crafts, foods, and design goods sourced from across the country's prefectures, a curation choice distinguishing it from a conventional shopping mall. A rooftop terrace, KITTE Garden, gives visitors an open-air view over Tokyo Station's restored Marunouchi-side facade and the surrounding business district -- one of the few publicly accessible elevated vantage points onto the station's historic red-brick architecture. KITTE connects directly to Tokyo Station's underground passages and sits a short walk from the Marunouchi-Minami exit, making it one of the station district's principal retail anchors. Shops keep long hours, open to 9pm on weekdays and Saturdays and 8pm on Sundays, serving both commuters passing through the station and destination shoppers drawn to its curated, craft-focused retail mix.
