Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi

Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi has roasted and ground Turkish coffee from the same Eminönü shop since 1871, and the company markets that continuity directly — the current storefront still operates on Tahmis Street, in a building associated with architect Zühtü Başar dating to 1932. Ownership has stayed inside the same family across three and now a fourth generation, a lineage the brand foregrounds in its own materials rather than treating as incidental history.

The product itself hasn't diversified much from the original proposition: finely ground Turkish coffee, roasted and milled to the fine, near-powder consistency Turkish brewing requires, sold from the historic Eminönü location as well as newer branches in Kadıköy and Sirkeci. The company describes itself as the most consumed Turkish coffee brand in the world, a claim built on more than a century and a half of continuous operation rather than recent expansion.

For a brand built almost entirely on unbroken tradition, the two facts that matter are the ones the company repeats most: an 1871 founding date, and a shop that has never left Eminönü in the century and a half since.
