What Kuyichi is known for
Dutch brand founded around 2000-2001 by the NGO Solidaridad with Triodos Bank and a Peruvian cotton-farmer collective, releasing the first fully organic-cotton denim jeans (the FATE line) in 2004; named for the Inca rainbow deity K'uychi.
Kuyichi is a Dutch sustainable-denim brand whose roots trace to 1998, when the Netherlands-based development NGO Solidaridad began investigating pollution and poverty in Peru's cotton-farming regions. The brand was formally founded around 2000-2001 by Solidaridad together with Triodos Bank, Stichting Stimulans and Oro Blanco, a collective of Peruvian organic-cotton growers. Its first collection used organic-cotton T-shirts; in 2004 it launched FATE, described in sustainability trade press as the first fully organic-cotton denim jeans line. Today Kuyichi holds GOTS, GRS and Regenagri certifications and is a Fair Wear Foundation member.
