What La Belle-Iloise is known for
Quiberon Brittany cannery since 1932 — hand-packed sardines and Label Rouge seafood traditions.
La Belle-Iloise was founded in 1932 by Georges Hilliet at age 22 in Port-Maria, Quiberon's fishing port. The company was initially called Établissement Georges Hilliet and produced only canned sardines, including two now-historic recipes: Saint-Georges Sardines in olive oil and La Belle-Iloise Sardines in peanut oil. Quiberon was one of France's largest sardine ports at the time, with 14 canneries operating in the region. Since 1932, the same hand-working gestures have been repeated—not for nostalgia, but because manual work is the best way to preserve fish flavor. Now run by Caroline Hilliet Le Branchu, the founder's granddaughter, la belle-iloise remains true to its roots, identity, and core values: respect and quality. The company offers fish cans with exceptional flavors, from sardines to fish soups and conserves, many carrying Protected Designation of Origin (AOP) or Protected Geographical Indication (IGP) labels, reflecting Brittany's maritime heritage and multi-generational family stewardship.
