La Maison du Laurina

Grand Coude, Saint-Joseph / Réunion / Online

What La Maison du Laurina is known for

The Lepinay family has grown certified-organic Bourbon Pointu for nearly 20 years at Grand Coude, above Saint-Joseph on Réunion. Their plot sits closest to Piton de la Fournaise of any coffee producer on the island.

La Maison du Laurina is the work of the Lepinay family, who have spent nearly twenty years cultivating Bourbon Pointu — a low-caffeine, fruity-tasting coffee variety — at Grand Coude, more than 1,000 meters up in the hills above Saint-Joseph on Réunion Island. Of the island's roughly seventy coffee producers, the estate is one of only two that meet organic-agriculture certification requirements, with the entire process — cultivation, harvest, processing and roasting — certified and labeled by Esprit Parc National and CERTIPAQ BIO. The plot itself sits closer to the Piton de la Fournaise volcano than any other coffee producer on the island, and the family describes itself as the only independent, certified-organic producer in Réunion's wild southern reaches. The coffee is sold in several forms — ground, whole bean, and green — alongside coffee sablés and a Laurina spread, giving visitors more than one way to take the variety home. For a buyer comparing Réunion coffees, the combination of organic certification, family continuity approaching two decades, and a growing site defined by its proximity to an active volcano is what separates La Maison du Laurina from the island's other Bourbon Pointu producers.
