What La Marianna is known for
La Marianna, at Colle Aperto on the edge of Bergamo's Città Alta, is where Enrico Panattoni invented stracciatella gelato in 1961 by folding shards of dark chocolate into fresh cream. Never patented, the recipe made this pasticceria-gelateria the birthplace of a flavor now served worldwide and named Bergamo's official gelato in 2017.
