What La Perle des Dieux is known for
La Perle des Dieux has hand-packed Atlantic sardines in Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie since 1887, with the Gendreau family running the cannery since 1906. Each collectible tin is still filled by hand, with Label Rouge sardines matured for four months.
La Perle des Dieux was established in 1887 in Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie on France's Atlantic coast in the Vendée. Purchased by the Gendreau family in 1906, the cannery has perpetuated sardine tradition through 130+ years of expertise. In 2005, the brand La Perle des Dieux was created as an exceptional line representing the cannery's finest sardines and preparation methods. The sardines are caught off the coast of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie in the small fishing area between the Island of Yeu, Noirmoutier, and Île de Ré. Each tin is hand-filled: sardines are sorted, cut, and arranged by hand, one by one, maintaining the same gesture as 130 years ago. Label Rouge sardines are matured for four months, achieving tender texture and remarkable finesse with an exceptional fat rate exceeding 12%. These sardines age extremely well for up to 10 years. The brand offers various recipes and vintage collections, featuring artistic designs by local painters on collectible tins that celebrate Atlantic heritage and Vendée maritime tradition.
