La Rose des Vents

La Rose des Vents opened in 2003 at 2 rue Monge, near Étretat's town hall and tourist office, and describes itself as the village's oldest shop dedicated to Norman regional products — a claim borne out by three subsequent expansions, in 2008, 2015 and 2022, as the inventory grew past what the original space could hold. The core of the shop is drink: more than 200 references of cider and Calvados drawn from Normandy's five departments, alongside non-alcoholic apple and pear juices for visitors not looking for alcohol. Cheese counters carry Camembert, Neufchâtel, Livarot and Pont l'Évêque — Normandy's signature cow's-milk cheeses — and the prepared-food side runs from charcuterie terrines and tripe dishes to seafood, including scallops, oysters and lobster bisque. For visitors headed to Étretat's chalk cliffs, the shop assembles weekend picnic hampers from its own stock, alongside embroidered tea towels and traditional cider bowls (bolées) sold as take-home souvenirs. Nearly every category on the shelves is sourced directly from Norman producers rather than a general gourmet-shop mix, which is the throughline across two decades and three expansions: a deliberately regional, not generic, French specialty grocer built around what Normandy itself produces.
