Loewe is the oldest house in the LVMH portfolio and wears it lightly. Founded in Madrid in 1846 as a cooperative of leather artisans, formalized by Enrique Loewe Roessberg, granted a Royal Warrant in 1905 — for most of its history it was Spain's quiet secret, the leather people brought back from Madrid the way they brought silk from Lyon.

Jonathan Anderson's eleven years changed the scale without touching the center. He built the Puzzle bag — a cuboid of origami engineering that became a modern classic — the Gate, the Flamenco's revival, and around them a whole cultural apparatus: the Loewe Craft Prize, ceramics, Studio Ghibli collaborations, runway shows that art critics reviewed. Leather remained the argument throughout; the house's Madrid ateliers still train their own artisans.

In 2025 the reins passed to Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, the founders of Proenza Schouler — a New York duo handed Spain's great leather patrimony. The Casa Loewe flagships, Madrid's above all, remain among the most beautiful retail rooms in fashion.
