What Malo is known for

Cashmere knitwear house founded in Florence in 1972 by brothers Alfredo and Giacomo Canessa, among the first Italian labels to specialize exclusively in cashmere. Production moved to Campi Bisenzio in the province of Florence, Tuscany, in 1973; became Malo Spa in 1980.

Malo was founded in Florence in 1972 by brothers Alfredo and Giacomo Canessa at a time when Scottish mills dominated the global cashmere knitwear market. The brothers wagered that high-quality cashmere could be produced in Italy rather than only sourced from Scotland, becoming one of the first Italian houses to work exclusively in cashmere. Production relocated in 1973 to Campi Bisenzio, a town in the province of Florence, Tuscany, where the company's manufacturing has remained centered since. Malo expanded through the 1970s and 80s, becoming Malo Spa in 1980 and opening a showroom in Milan.
