Micosta

Founded in 2012 and female-led, Micosta works with roughly 3,750 smallholder farmers around two washing and de-pulping stations in Muyinga province, in northern Burundi, where its growers cultivate more than 27,000 coffee trees at 1,700 to 1,800 meters. The company processes and exports fully washed Jackson Bourbon Arabica across a full grade range - AA, A, 15+, B and TT - and markets a regional lot under the designation "Ngoma Mild." Micosta is candid about where it stands on formal certification, stating it is still working to "gain certification to ensure our farmers are remunerated accordingly" rather than claiming one it doesn't hold. Its export relationships reach international trading houses; a client reference from Sucafina, the Switzerland-based coffee trader, points to a European buying channel. The company's structure - two washing stations serving thousands of smallholders rather than a single large estate - puts it closer to a cooperative-style green coffee exporter than a boutique single-farm operation, with the grading spread from AA down to TT reflecting a broad smallholder harvest rather than one uniform lot.
