What Mona di Orio is known for
Niche perfume house founded in 2004 by perfumer Mona di Orio with partner Jeroen Oude Sogtoen, built on di Orio's sixteen-year apprenticeship under Edmond Roudnitska in Cabris, near Grasse, France. Di Orio died in 2011; Oude Sogtoen continues the house.
Mona di Orio trained for sixteen years under the celebrated French perfumer Edmond Roudnitska, including six years working directly alongside him in his laboratory in Cabris, a village near Grasse. In 2004 she partnered with Jeroen Oude Sogtoen to found their own house under di Orio's name. Their debut releases in 2006 - Lux, Carnation, and Nuit Noire - were noted in perfume press as provocative and unconventional for the time. Mona di Orio died in December 2011 at age 42, following complications from back surgery. Jeroen Oude Sogtoen has continued to run and expand the house since her death.
