Morihachi

Morihachi has made wagashi (Japanese sweets) in Kanazawa since 1625, when it held the position of official confectioner to the Kaga domain under the Maeda clan. Its best-known product, Choseiten, a pressed-sugar confection, is often cited among Japan's most celebrated traditional sweets. The main store stood in Owari-cho, its original home, for nearly four centuries before relocating to a newly built shop in Ote-machi, across from the Ohi Art Museum, in February 2011. The Ote-machi location now houses not just the retail shop but also the Kanazawa Confectionery Woodblock Museum, displaying the carved wooden molds historically used to shape rakugan and other sweets, plus a tea lounge and hands-on rakugan-making sessions.
