What Nakkaş Rug is known for
Two men both named Cengiz, who met working in an Istanbul rug shop, opened Galeri Cengiz in the Arasta Bazaar in 1989 and relaunched it as Nakkaş in 2004 after moving to Nakilbent Sokak behind the Hippodrome. The gallery now holds more than 20,000 carpets and kilims, spanning antique Hereke, Konya, Kayseri, and Bergama weaves alongside contemporary pieces made with traditional techniques.
