Peace Coffee

Peace Coffee has roasted exclusively organic, fair-trade coffee in Minneapolis since 1996, building its business on direct relationships with small-scale farmer co-ops rather than commodity contracts. The company frames its mission plainly: better-tasting coffee that makes a better world, a line it has kept for three decades of roasting.

Three coffees anchor the lineup. Birchwood, a medium roast, is pitched as the shop's balanced everyday cup; Black Squirrel, also medium, is roasted specifically for espresso; and a dark-roast Guatemala sits at the far end of the roast spectrum for drinkers who want more char and less acidity. Beyond bagged beans, Peace Coffee sells EcoPods, a compostable single-serve pod line, alongside standard espresso capsules, decaf, and brewing equipment.

The shop also runs coffee classes and maintains a "Farmer Partners" section of its site profiling the co-ops it buys from, an unusual level of sourcing transparency for a roaster this size. Its coffee ships direct from the online store and is also distributed to grocers across the Minneapolis region, so the same organic, fair-trade beans reach customers whether they order a bag online or pick one up at a regional grocery shelf.

For a roaster built around a single sourcing principle since the 1990s, Peace Coffee has kept its offer narrow and legible: three core roasts, one certification standard, and a supply chain it is willing to name.
