What Philipponnat is known for
The Philipponnat family has held vines in the Champagne region since 1522, and its house in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ grows and vinifies its own wines on estate parcels. Its flagship is the Clos des Goisses monopole, a steep south-facing slope above the Marne that yields the house's powerful Pinot Noir-driven champagnes.
Best for — Clos des Goisses and powerful pinot champagnes.
