What Pierre Guillaume is known for
Niche perfume house founded in 2002 by French chemist Pierre Guillaume (b. 1977), originally as Parfumerie Generale. Known for numbered, largely unisex fragrances; roughly 40 scents now sold in about 200 outlets worldwide.
Pierre Guillaume is a French perfumer born in 1977 in the Auvergne region, the son of a chemist who manufactured fine chemicals for the cosmetics and perfumery industry. At 25, Guillaume composed his first fragrance, Coze, a spicy-tobacco accord inspired by his father's cigar case. In 2002 he founded his own house, Parfumerie Generale, and established it within the niche fragrance market. His fragrances are numbered sequentially, with names relegated to subtitles, and are packaged in plain, transparent or solid glass bottles. Guillaume has since built the brand to roughly forty fragrances, sold through close to 200 stockists internationally, while retaining full creative and financial independence from larger fragrance conglomerates.
