Platonica was founded in Granada in 2003 by Sheila Camarena and Miguel Diez Pombo. The workshop and shop sit on Carrera del Darro, the riverside street running along the base of the Albaicin, Granada's old Moorish quarter, opposite the Alhambra hill. Diez Pombo runs the technical workshop side and administration, while Camarena leads design, prototyping and photography. Collections are named for Andalusian and Nasrid-period references - Carmen, Sebka, Alhambra, Pomegranates, Myrtle - worked in silver and gold-plated silver, and the brand markets itself under the line 'Jewels made of Andalusia.'
