What Revol is known for

French porcelain manufacturer founded in 1768 in Saint-Uze, Drome, tracing to Pierre Revol. Nine generations of family ownership (Revol, then Bourgonne, Loire, now Passot); makes its own paste from regional kaolin, feldspar and silica.

Revol traces its founding to 1768, when Pierre Revol established a workshop in Ponsas, in the Drome region of southeastern France, after marrying into a family of faience makers. The company later centered production in Saint-Uze, about 70 km south of Lyon. Over nine generations, leadership passed through four family names - Revol, then Bourgonne, then Loire, and currently Passot. Revol is unusual among ceramics houses in making its own paste on-site: raw kaolin, feldspar and silica arrive unprocessed and are worked into porcelain paste in-house rather than bought pre-mixed. The manufacture specializes in culinary and tableware porcelain designed for oven-to-table use. The Saint-Uze site remains open to visitors as a working factory.
