Sirplus was founded in London in 2010 by Henry Hales, who discovered that Savile Row and Jermyn Street shirt- and suit-makers regularly generated surplus fabric - offcuts referred to in the trade as 'cabbage' - that would otherwise be wasted. The brand began with boxer shorts made from shirt offcuts sold from a stall at Spitalfields Market, later moving to Portobello Market and eventually opening a permanent shop at No. 306A Portobello Road. From that base, Sirplus grew a menswear collection built around upcycling surplus fabric and deadstock, including material sourced from Italian mills.
