Small Batch Coffee Roasters

Small Batch Coffee Roasters started in Brighton and Hove in 2006 with a simple aim -- make genuinely good coffee accessible rather than a specialist niche -- and has since grown from a single roastery into an operation sourcing beans from more than 20 countries across four continents, working directly with farmers rather than through blind blends. The roastery runs two machines, a Probat and a Loring Kestrel, and logs sensory evaluations on every batch through Cropster software, adjusting for whichever of the three main processing methods -- washed, natural, or pulp natural -- a given lot came through. That process-level attention has been recognized outside Brighton too: Small Batch has taken Gold at the Great British Food Awards, a Best Coffee Roaster award from the European Coffee Awards, two stars at the Great Taste Awards, and two stars from the International Taste Institute in Brussels. Locally, the roastery still runs a small group of Brighton and Hove espresso bars -- including its Goldstone Villas cafe in Hove and the Wellington House roastery in Portslade -- plus a mobile coffee cart for events, while supplying wholesale coffee to cafes along the south coast.
