South2 West8

Tokyo, Japan

What South2 West8 is known for

Nepenthes' outdoor sub-label, founded 2002-03 by Kaname Nagaoka and named for its Sapporo, Hokkaido store address (Minami 2-jo Nishi 8-chome) - not Tokyo. Built around Tenkara fly-fishing gear reworked into pocket-heavy city outerwear.

South2 West8 was founded around 2002-2003 by Kaname Nagaoka as the outdoor-focused member of the Nepenthes family of brands, developed with guidance from Nepenthes founders Keizo Shimizu and Daiki Suzuki. The name comes directly from the flagship store's street address in Sapporo, Hokkaido - Minami 2-jo, Nishi 8-chome, which translates to 'South 2, West 8.' The brand's design language centres on Tenkara, a minimalist, centuries-old Japanese fly-fishing technique; Nagaoka released his first collection of fly-fishing-inspired gear in 2003. From there, South2 West8 expanded into hard-wearing, pocket-dense apparel that translates fishing-vest functionality into city-friendly outerwear.
