What Stefano Ricci is known for

Florentine super-luxury menswear — hand-made silk ties and regal tailoring from its Antico Setificio Fiorentino silk mill.

Stefano Ricci founded his Florentine house in 1972 on the strength of hand-made silk ties, and built upward from that square of fabric into the most unapologetic super-luxury menswear in Italy — regal tailoring, crocodile and ostrich leathers, gold-plated hardware, eagles everywhere. No diffusion lines, no discounts, no irony.

The house's masterstroke was buying its own history: in 2010 Ricci acquired the Antico Setificio Fiorentino, Florence's ancient silk mill, where looms — some designed from Leonardo's drawings — still weave by hand for the house and for palaces. Production stays entirely in Florence; sons Niccolò and Filippo run the company with their father's absolutism intact.

The clientele is heads of state, dynasts and men for whom the price is the point discreetly made — flagships stand from Palazzo Tornabuoni's neighborhood to Beijing. Stefano Ricci is Florence's maximal answer to quiet luxury: loud craftsmanship, spoken softly, in silk the Renaissance would recognize.
