Stilbruch Vintage

Stilbruch is Hamburg's secondhand department-store operation, run by the city's own sanitation authority, Stadtreinigung Hamburg, rather than a private vintage retailer. It marked its 25th anniversary in July 2026, putting its founding around 2001. The stores are stocked from what the operation intercepts daily — furniture, clothing, books, bicycles, kitchenware and electronics pulled from bulky-waste collections, recycling drop-off points and direct donations before they reach landfill — and an in-house workshop refurbishes items before they go back on the floor. The two confirmed Stilbruch locations open to shoppers are in Altona (Ruhrstraße 51) and Wandsbek (Helbingstraße 63), both operating six days a week with separate hours for dropping off goods. The model doubles as municipal waste diversion and affordable secondhand retail, funded through the same public sanitation budget that runs Hamburg's household waste collection.
