Sweet Bloom Coffee Roasters

Sweet Bloom Coffee Roasters was founded in 2013 by Andy Sprenger, who returned to his hometown of Lakewood, Colorado to open it after roughly a decade working in specialty coffee elsewhere. Before coffee, Sprenger and his wife Laurel spent time doing wetland conservation work in Lebanon; after returning to the US in 2003 he joined Ceremony Coffee in Maryland, working up from barista to award-winning roaster over the following years. His competitive record is unusually decorated for an independent roaster: two US Brewers Cup titles, a runner-up finish at the World Brewers Cup, and an Aeropress championship, all won before he set out on his own. Sweet Bloom's roasting program reflects that competition background directly -- light roast profiles built to show off a bean's own character, sourced through direct trade relationships and regular producer visits rather than through blind commercial buying. In 2019 the company merged with Two Rivers Coffee, founded by Eric Yochim, a fellow specialty coffee enthusiast with a fine-dining hospitality background, broadening Sweet Bloom's operation without diluting the founding roasting philosophy. The Lakewood shop remains the hub of that program: a roastery built by a multiple-time national competitor around the specific, personal decision to bring what he'd learned competing back to where he grew up.
