Third Drawer Down has run under the line "making art accessible since 2003," the year the Melbourne studio started turning gallery-scale artist collaborations into everyday objects rather than limited-edition prints alone. The collaborator list has grown to include major contemporary names - Yayoi Kusama, Louise Bourgeois, Judy Chicago and Marina Abramović among them - alongside Australian artists such as Tony Albert, Kaylene Whiskey and Kait James, translating each artist's work onto tea towels, ceramics, stationery and other playful, functional pieces rather than treating the collaboration as a one-off capsule. That model has scaled from a single Melbourne shop into dedicated e-commerce operations in the UK and US, plus a wholesale arm and Studio TDD, which handles custom projects and licensed production for outside clients and institutions. The business sits at an unusual intersection - part gift shop, part licensed-art distributor, part contract studio - built on the premise that a Kusama or Bourgeois piece belongs on a tea towel in someone's kitchen as legitimately as on a gallery wall. Two decades in, that premise has held up well enough to keep drawing in new artist partners on both sides of the world, rather than trading on a handful of early names.
