What Unazuki Brewery is known for

Brewing since 1995 in Kurobe, Toyama with Tateyama snowmelt water and local barley, Unazuki Brewery serves four house beers, including a Rice Ale and the Kamoshika bock, at its 100-seat Beer Hall, plus malt barley tea and beer curry to go.

Unazuki Brewery was established in May 1995, with its Unazuki Beer Hall restaurant following in April 1997, in Kurobe, Toyama Prefecture — a region defined by the Tateyama mountain range's snowmelt, which the brewery draws through the Kurogane River's underground springs as its brewing water, paired with barley grown locally rather than imported. The house range runs to four beers: Kölsch "Juji Gorge," a light, crisp ale; Alt "Trolley," an amber, more complex ale; a Rice Ale made with Toyama's own specialty rice; and Bock "Kamoshika," a dark, aromatic lager at 6.0% ABV. The Beer Hall seats up to 100 and pairs the fresh beer with seafood and mountain delicacies characteristic of Toyama's cuisine, while an adjacent takeout counter and the Unazuki Shokusai-kan direct-sales shop extend the operation past sit-down dining. The gift shop's range goes beyond bottled beer: malt barley tea made with the same local water, and a beer-infused curry built around the Kamoshika bock specifically. It's a brewery whose identity is tied tightly to its geography — snowmelt water and regional barley feeding both the beer and a curry recipe built to showcase one specific brew.
