Amaro Lucano was created in 1894 by Pasquale Vena, a confectioner from Pisticci in Basilicata who had trained in Naples before returning home, and who developed a herbal liqueur blending more than 30 herbs. In 1900 the Vena family became official supplier to Italy's royal House of Savoy, whose coat of arms still appears on the label. The company has remained family-owned across four generations; it is now based in Pisticci Scalo (Matera) and run by Pasquale Vena's grandson with his wife Rosistella and their children. Beyond the core amaro, the company today produces anniversary and mint variants, holds BRC/IFS/ISO certifications, and operates a company museum.
