Distilleria Caffo

Distilleria Caffo dates to 1915, when Giuseppe Caffo, a trained master distiller, took over an existing distillery near Mount Etna in Santa Venerina, continuing a family tradition of distilling grape pomace that had already been underway since the late 1800s. Giuseppe's son Sebastiano became a master distiller in his own right, and together with his brother Santo, the family formalized the business as Fratelli Caffo, gradually building a range of fruit and herbal liqueurs, amari, limoncino, amaretto, sambuca, and aged grappa. The company later relocated its main operations to Limbadi, in Calabria, where it is now headquartered as Gruppo Caffo 1915. Its flagship product, Vecchio Amaro del Capo, is a bittersweet herbal liqueur served ice-cold and now accounts for roughly 70% of the group's total sales, with exports reaching 35 countries. Beyond Amaro del Capo, the group also owns other historic Italian spirits brands, including Elisir San Marzano Borsci and Amaro Santa Maria al Monte, positioning Caffo as one of the larger family-owned amaro producers in southern Italy rather than a single-product distillery.
