Wolfsonian Design Store

The Wolfsonian Design Store's centerpiece isn't for sale: an open metal shelving unit, dated to circa 1896 and manufactured by Snead & Co. Iron Works of Louisville and Chicago, that the museum describes as "the first modular book stacking system," built from standardized cast-iron parts and framed as "an expression of the democratization of knowledge" during the Progressive Era. The shop, at 1001 Washington Avenue in Miami Beach, displays its stock — books, toys, housewares, and decorative objects — directly on that ironwork.

Around the shelving, the store sells design-oriented merchandise tied to the Wolfsonian's own collection and current exhibitions: travel accessories, kitchenware, watches, jewelry, clocks, toys, and the museum's own award-winning publications. A coffee bar with complimentary WiFi runs alongside the retail floor, and museum members get 20% off purchases. Open Wednesday through Sunday, 10am to 6pm (until 9pm on Fridays), the store functions less as a standard museum gift shop than as a small, browsable extension of the Wolfsonian's design-history collection — its own fixtures, not just its inventory, carry a documented history.
