What Alfa is known for
Norwegian footwear maker founded in 1931 by Maurice Filip Christensen, originally producing children's shoes before pivoting to ski boots in the 1950s; developed molded vulcanized-rubber ski-boot soles and now supplies the Norwegian military and police.
Alfa was founded in 1931 by Maurice Filip Christensen, and for its first two decades the company's business was children's footwear. That changed in the 1950s, when Alfa shifted from being Norway's largest children's-shoe factory into a focus on ski boots, becoming, according to the company, the only manufacturer at the time producing ski boots with vulcanized rubber soles molded directly onto the upper. The brand's military boot, the M/77, developed in the 1970s, remains in use by Norwegian conscripts today, and Alfa also supplies footwear to the Norwegian Police and Armed Forces.
