Antoinette Poisson was founded in Paris in 2012 by three heritage conservators - Vincent Farelly, Jean-Baptiste Martin and Julie Stordiau - who set out to revive dominoterie, an 18th-century technique for producing decorative 'domino' papers by engraving a design into a printing block, then applying color by hand or stencil. The papers were historically used to line books, boxes, and small rooms or alcoves; Antoinette Poisson's contemporary work extends the same period patterns into wallpaper, fabric by the meter, stationery, lampshades, boxes, cushions, candles and table linens, all manufactured in France. The brand takes its name from Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, the Marquise de Pompadour. Historically based in Paris, the house recently opened a new flagship at 2 Rue Bonaparte in the Saint-Germain-des-Pres quarter, and now distributes through roughly 50 points of sale across 13 countries.
