What Benetton is known for

Rome outpost of United Colors of Benetton, the Italian knitwear brand founded in 1965 by the Benetton siblings near Treviso; this large store sits on Piazza di Spagna at the foot of the Spanish Steps.

This Piazza di Spagna location is a retail store of United Colors of Benetton, the Italian fashion group founded in 1965 by siblings Luciano, Giuliana, Carlo and Gilberto Benetton. Luciano had begun selling sweaters knitted at home by Giuliana to shops around Treviso as early as 1955; when Carlo and Gilberto joined in 1965, the family opened its first factory in Ponzano Veneto, where the group's headquarters remains today. The 'United Colors of Benetton' name was adopted in 1989. This shop occupies a large storefront at Piazza di Spagna 67-69, at the foot of the Spanish Steps in central Rome.
