What Camille Fournet is known for

Watch-strap and leather-goods house founded 1945 by Camille Fournet in Saint-Quentin, Picardy; became a supplier to major watchmakers in 1965 and still crafts alligator, ostrich and calfskin straps at its Picardy workshops.

Camille Fournet founded his workshop in 1945 on rue Vauban in Saint-Quentin, in France's Picardy region, initially training seven craftsmen to make watch straps, belts and small leather goods. In the 1960s he expanded into exotic leathers - alligator, ostrich, python, shagreen - and in 1965 the most prestigious watchmakers began naming his house their accredited watch-strap partner. The company's leather-goods and bag production is centered in Tergnier, also in Picardy. Straps are still handcrafted through dozens of individual steps by artisans working in exotic and classic skins, and the house has since broadened from straps alone into a wider range of fine leather goods while keeping its Picardy manufacturing base.
