Caramels d'Isigny is based in Isigny-sur-Mer, in Normandy's Calvados department, an area that has been a center of French butter and cream production since at least the 16th century. Confectionery production developed alongside the dairy trade: the soft caramel style now most associated with Isigny traces to 1894, when Pierre and Jean Dupont developed a caramel recipe that became known as 'Dupont d'Isigny.' The present-day Caramels d'Isigny company continues this tradition using AOP-certified Isigny butter and cream from the Isigny Sainte-Mere dairy cooperative, cooked in traditional copper basins, and offers factory tours where visitors can watch production.
