The red sole arrived in 1993 by improvisation: a prototype felt flat, an assistant was painting her nails, and he lacquered the sole with her red polish. The flash of Rouge Louboutin underfoot became fashion's most litigated and most recognized signature — trademark battles fought worldwide, largely won.
The catalogue built a full theater on that sole: the So Kate's 120-millimeter dagger line, the Pigalle, spiked Louis sneakers that conquered menswear, and beauty — that origin-story nail polish now sold in an obelisk bottle.
